Bhutan Bird Watching Tour

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be received by our guide and driver and escorted to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy birding along the Pachhu River. You will sight waterbirds including: Ibisbill, Brown Dipper, White-capped Water Redstart, River Lapwing, and Plumbeous Water Redstart.

After breakfast, proceed towards your bird watching tour in Paro. The popular sites for watching rare species are Taktsang Lhakhang, Rinpung Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang, and Ta Dzong. Here, you can especially watch exotic avifauna species in their natural habitats.

After breakfast, proceed towards Thimphu, your second destination for watching rare species. Here, you can buy some bird stamps which are usually sold as a good omen. The rare bird species you can see at this place include Laughing Thrush, Fire Capped Tit, Yellow-Backed Flower Packer, and Maroon Backed Accentor. You may also get a chance to see many architectural beauties in Thimphu.

After breakfast, get ready to resume your journey to Punakha. During this journey, you will make a short halt at Do Chula Pass, where you can admire the beauty of eastern Himalayan peaks. At Do Chula Pass, you can also get a glimpse of bird species like Rufous-breasted Bush Robin, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Black-eared Shrike Babblers, Grey-winged Blackbird, and Gold-billed Magpie. On reaching Punakha, visit Punakha Dzong where you can spot birds like White-breasted Kingfisher, Black-Chinned Yuhina, and Large Gray Babbler.

After breakfast, get ready to resume your journey to Gangtey. This road journey will be done through the Black Mountain region where you can catch glimpses of birds like Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Amur Falcon, Red-headed Bullfinch, and more. On reaching Gangtey, proceed with check-in and have the rest of the day to explore the region or rest.

After breakfast, follow your footsteps to Trongsa. During this trip, you will be cruising deep inside the silver fir forest where you can catch a glimpse of Gold-napped Finch. If you are lucky, you might also catch a peaceful sight of the elusive Fulvous Parrotbill. On reaching Trongsa, proceed with check-in and get ready for a city tour. The stretch will give opportunities to spot species like Streak-breasted Scimitar Babblers, Rufous-bellied Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Common Kestrel, Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babblers, White-browed Scimitar Babblers, Long-tailed Shrikes, and Common Green Magpie.

Depart for Zhemgang and Tingtibi following the Mangde Chhu River. Species found in this area include Pin-tailed Green Pigeons, Red-headed Trogon, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Chestnut-breasted Partridge, Hill Partridge, Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Great Hornbill, White-browed Piculet, Speckled Piculet and many more. Overnight stay in tented camp.

Explore Tingtibi where you can spot the Great Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Lesser Yellownape, Scarlet Minivet, Sultan Tit, Black-eared Shrike-babbler, White-winged Cuckooshrike, Large Cuckooshrike, Bar-winged Flycatcher-shrike, Large Woodshrike, Long-tailed Broadbill, Silver-eared Broadbill, Himalayan Goldenback, Greater Goldenback and many more. Overnight stay in tented camp.

In the morning before heading to Bumthang, you will try to spot the Beautiful Nuthatch and the Sapphire Flycatcher. Then drive to Bumthang crossing over Yotong La Pass (3,400m). En route, spot the Chestnut-tailed Minla, Brown Parrotbill, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush, and Gold-naped Finch. In the evening, walk along the Chamkhar Chu River in Bumthang valley to spot the Little Bunting, Red-billed Chough, Blyth's Pipit, and Common Sandpiper.

Today you will sight pheasants if missed in the previous days. Visit Tharparling Monastery for magnificent Himalayan Monal and Satyr Tragopan. Besides, you will sight Spot-winged Grosbeak, Darian Redstart, Olive-backed Pipit, Oriental Skylark, Black-billed Magpie, and more. After breakfast, resume your journey to Thimphu. On reaching Thimphu, proceed with check-in and spend the rest of the day at your disposal. You can explore local markets and shop for Bhutanese traditional clothing.

After a delicious breakfast, check-out from the hotel room and you will then be transferred to Paro Airport. And with this, the tour ends with some handful of memories of Bhutan's incredible avian diversity and stunning landscapes!
